Lazonby Outdoor Swimming Pool
One of the best reasons to visit Lazonby in summer. It is simple, friendly and refreshingly different from a standard leisure-centre swim.
<p>Lazonby Outdoor Swimming Pool is one of those places that makes the Eden Valley feel properly special in summer. The volunteer-run pool has welcomed swimmers since 1964 and sits close to the River Eden on the edge of the village.</p>
<p>The main pool is 17m by 8m and heated to around 24°C, with a separate toddler pool. There are lifeguards, hot showers, picnic space, a kiosk for drinks, snacks and ice creams, covered seating and a playground next door.</p>
<h2>When is Lazonby pool open?</h2>
<p>The pool is seasonal. In 2026 it opened from 2 May to 5 September, with public swimming sessions and separate adult-only sessions. The exact season, session times and prices can change each year, so check the official website before setting off.</p>
<h2>Do you need to book?</h2>
<p>Public sessions can sometimes be paid for on arrival, but advance booking is a good idea on warm days because numbers are limited. Private pool hire is also available for families and groups.</p>
<h2>Getting there</h2>
<p>The pool is around a five-minute walk from Lazonby & Kirkoswald railway station. There is a small car park beside the pool, with additional parking arrangements used at busy times.</p>
